Champion Tutor also charges clients a separate fee for introducing them to tutors and providing an online platform for the tuition to be provided. Both fees are included in the overall lesson price.

Can you pay per lesson or is there a minimal sign up time?
Lessons can be purchased individually or in blocks of 15. A 10% discount will be automatically applied for blocks of 15 lessons booked.
Can a child or young person book their own sessions?
Children over 13 who have been given permission to book their own sessions can book lessons using credits previously prepaid by parents or carers, allowing a measure of autonomy over their learning in accordance with T&Cs.
Are group sessions available?
Champion Tutor has future plans for delivery of group sessions in a 1:2 and 1:3 ratio in areas such as English, Maths, Sciences, Social Interaction and Study Skills and will share dates shortly for commencement of group tuition.
My school has talked about the possibility of my child accessing tuition in school. Can Champion Tutor offer online tuition directly into schools, colleges and other educational settings?
Champion Tutor would be happy to receive enquiries from schools, colleges, PRUs, Virtual Schools and other organisations who require tuition for children who may need catch-up education. As well as offering 1:1 tuition, it is anticipated that Champion Tutor will be able to offer ‘adult: child/ young person’ tuition within 1:2 and 1:3 group ratios in the near future. Please direct all educational setting lesson enquiries to: anna@champion-tutor.co.uk and linda@champion-tutor.co.uk.
How do I find the tutor who is right for my child and who meets my criteria?
Tutors’ profiles demonstrate their educational credentials, tuition subjects offered, interests, passions and experiences, alongside their character strengths. Champion Tutor co-founders are extremely proud of the self-employed tutors who deliver their tuition. The diversity of tutors means that children, young people and families can use profiles to guide them in selecting the person who they feel they will work best with. Some tutors may be more outgoing, others may be quietly self-confident, but all tutors have undergone rigorous recruitment and training to ensure they can deliver excellent lessons confidently.
How will tutors know the level at which a student is working?
Once a first session is booked, a parent-carer /student questionnaire will be shared by that tutor by email to inform tutors about current working levels, any particular known areas of difficulty, and any other information relating to expressing what are the hoped-for outcomes of the tuition. Customers will be entitled to a review of learning after each block of 15 lessons have been delivered.
Within which age ranges is tuition offered?
Children and young people aged 5 to 18 can access tuition from Champion Tutor.
Will I have access to the same tutor or does the tutor vary?
While it is hoped and expected that tutor consistency will ordinarily be maintained, from time to time tutors may need to cancel sessions due to illness or unexpected other commitments. Additionally, as our tutors are self-employed, they have the right to give Champion Tutor notice of changes. In either circumstance, if individual or block bookings cannot be delivered by the tutor with whom lessons were originally booked, then lessons will be credited to the client, and can be re-booked with the customer’s chosen alternative tutor. Subject to suitably qualified alternative tutors not being available, customers could choose either to use credit for a different subject and tutor, or a refund can be considered if a suitably qualified tutor cannot deliver pre-booked lessons.
What entry criteria must Champion Tutors meet in order to deliver tuition in a subject?

A level: Tutors must have obtained grade A* at A level, or be working at/ have obtained a degree level in that subject.

QUESTIONS FROM TUTORS

How do I apply to be a Champion Tutor?
We recruit tutors who are currently studying or have graduated from Russell Group and other top performing universities. We also recruit teachers with an excellent track record of getting great results. All of our tutors have achieved excellent academic success. Tutors must be eligible to work in the UK on a self-employed basis. We are looking for tutors who are bright, enthusiastic, can work with them at appropriate levels, and can motivate their students.
What will the interview process be like?
In the interview, we will find out a little more about you and your experience in education as a student. We will ask about your best teachers and why they made a difference to your learning. We will also ask you to teach us something from your subject field and a few more general questions. Additionally, we would like to hear emotionally intelligent answers which give us confidence in your ability to deliver empathic and positive lessons. The interview will take place online and we will give you the opportunity to ask questions and find out more about us and our vision?
Do I need to get an Enhanced DBS certificate?
All of our self-employed tutors need an Enhanced DBS before they start any online tuition. This will be funded by Champion Tutor if not already held. Tutors will also take part in Safeguarding and GDPR training before they start and are advertised for bookings on our website. Once your application has been approved as having met our criteria for self-employed tutors, you can apply for DBS at: anna@champion-tutor.co.uk
How do I manage bookings and what do I do if a student or parent has asked for my private contact details?
We have our Code of Respect and Terms and Conditions which state that it is not acceptable to solicit or give out personal details such as email addresses or phone numbers. This means that we are unable to work with tutors who take this action. Our bespoke software has been designed so that you have all you need to communicate and share documents. You also have a Champion Tutor e-mail address for correspondence. If you have any concerns regarding this, we would ask you to get in touch on support@champion-tutor.co.uk.
How much should I charge for tutoring?
Once accepted as a self-employed tutor on the Champion Tutor website, our team will share a table of tutor fees and customer lesson prices, which include ‘Champion Tutor’ client fees and VAT. You can set your chosen tutor fee when you sign up, and ask us to change what you charge any time, by emailing support@champion-tutor.co.uk.
